Only one day is needed for a visit to Chiloé Island. From Puerto Montt, the return trip is only 3 hours (in summer it is necessary to allow a little more time for the ferry).
1) Chacao - Caulin - Ancud
Cross Canal Chacao, make a short visit to the village, continue along the coast to Bahía de Caulín, then leave the main road and continue to Ancud. See the sights of the town, such as Museo Azul, the fort San Antonio and Balneario de Arena Gruesa. Return to the ferry by the main road and visit the Darwin Foundation?s small but representative Chilote forest reserve.
2) Chacao - Ancud - Puñihuil:
Cross Canal Chacao, stop to visit Ancud and then continue to the Pacific to have lunch on the waterfront at Quetalmahue. For the afternoon, make a visit to the penguin colony in Puñihuil.
3) Chacao - Ancud - Fuerte Ahui:
Cross Canal Chacao, visit Ancud and then continue to the Pacific to have lunch on the waterfront at Quetalmahue. In the afternoon, visit Fuerte de Ahui and on the return trip, the museum at Puente Quilo.
4) Chacao - Dalcahue - Castro - Chonchi:
Cross Canal Chacao, in an hour and a half you can reach Dalcahue. On Sundays the Feria Artesanal, a big crafts fair, is held along the waterfront. Continue to Castro on the inland road, have lunch and then visit Chonchi.
5) Chacao - Dalcahue - Curaco de Vélez - Achao:
Cross Canal Chacao, in an hour and a half you can reach Dalcahue. On Sundays the Feria Artesanal, a big crafts fair, is held along the waterfront. Cross on the ferry to Isla de Quinchao and visit Curaco de Vélez and Achao.
6) Chacao - Manaos - Linao - Quemchi - Degan:
Cross Canal Chacao and if looking for an alternative road, take the first turn to the left, along the waterfront to Quemchi. Visit Isla Aucar and then drive to Degañ, from where the main road goes towards Ancud and takes you back to your starting point.
7) Quellón - Chonchi - Castro - Dalcahue - Ancud - Chacao
If starting out from Quellón (having arrived there by ferry) after touring the town, drive to Chonchi, Castro, Dalcahue and, lastly visit Ancud. Leave the island by ferry at Puerto de Chacao.
