QUEILEN AND ENVIRONS
The town is tucked into the mouth of the large Compu estuary. The harbour is sheltered by a thin sandspit that is an attractive spot in summer weather.
As with the majority of Chilote ports, Queilen grew as a result of timber exploitation and agricultural exports at the end of the 19th century. A slower rate of development continued until the 1940's. Further advances awaited the coming of a road in 1976.
